More than 20,000 scholarships have been awarded to children of North Carolina veterans.
The North Carolina Scholarship Program was created to show appreciation for the services and sacrifices
of its war veterans. The scholarship program applies to North Carolina schools.
The scholarship provides eight academic semesters, which must be used within
eight years. Eligibility is based on the definition of “child” in
37 U.S.C. § 401
and applies to certain categories of deceased, disabled, combat, or POW/MIA veterans.
Basic Eligibility Requirements
- Applicant must be under age 25 at the time of application.
- Applicant must be a resident and domiciled in North Carolina.
- The veteran’s qualifying service must have occurred during a period of war.

Additionally, one of the following must be true:

The veteran parent was a legal North Carolina resident when entering the period
of military service on which eligibility is based.

The applicant was born in North Carolina and has lived in the state
continuously since birth.

- Graduate students will receive the undergraduate rate.
- Paper applications are no longer accepted.
